THE SUPERVISORY FUNCTION AND INFORMATION ACCESS RIGHTS OF INDEPENDENT DIRECTORS IN PUBLIC COMPANIES IN VIETNAM

The oversight of company management to ensure that executives act in the best interests of the company and safeguard the legal rights and interests of shareholders and other stakeholders is widely recognized as a core function underlying the establishment of the independent director position in public joint-stock companies. However, one of the most prevalent challenges faced by independent directors is the issue of information asymmetry between themselves and the company’s internal executives. This paper examines the critical importance of information access rights for independent directors, analyzes the obstacles they frequently encounter in obtaining timely and adequate information essential to the performance of their supervisory duties, and highlights key deficiencies in the current Vietnamese legal framework governing such rights in public companies. On that basis, the article advances several recommendations aimed at refining the relevant legal provisions and enhancing the effectiveness of their implementation in practice.

LANDSCAPE, GENDER AND ETHNICITY: READING VŨ HẠNH’S FOREST FIRE THROUGH THE LENS OF LANDSCAPE CRITICISM

Forest Fire by Vũ Hạnh is among the few literary works authentically depicting the socio-natural context of the Central Highlands people during the resistance against French colonialism. The work possesses profound realistic value and serves as a unique artistic portrayal crafted through an honest, vivid, and emotionally rich narrative style. Alongside The Rising Country by Nguyên Ngọc, Forest Fire not only vividly illustrates the lives of ethnic minority communities but also strongly condemns social injustices and oppression, thereby offering a fresh perspective on the Central Highlands region. This article focuses on analyzing the intersection between landscape and gender, as well as landscape and ethnicity, within the story Forest Fire. Examining the interaction between gender and natural spaces helps us better understand the complex relationship between humans and landscapes, thus constructing an additional layer of meaning in interpreting Vũ Hạnh's Forest Fire

RULES AND METHODS FOR DIFFERENTIATED TEACHING ACCORDING TO LEARNING STYLES

Differentiated Instruction (DI) is a teaching approach in which teachers adjust the content, lesson plans, and teaching methods to meet the diverse learning needs of students, with the aim of maximizing their abilities. This teaching approach meets the requirements of the General Education Curriculum 2018; however, the principles and methods of differentiated instruction, based on learning styles, for application in Biology have not been extensively studied. This paper provides an overview of the theory of differentiated instruction and analyzes its key characteristics. Based on this analysis, it proposes four principles and five effective methods for differentiated instruction in Biology, along with specific examples in designing teaching activities that meet the objectives of general education.

DEVELOPING MATHEMATICAL KNOWLEDGE FOR TEACHING CONDITIONAL PROBABILITY AMONG HIGH SCHOOL MATHEMATICS TEACHERS

In recent years, probability has become an important knowledge strand, occupying a significant portion of the high school mathematics curriculum. Consequently, research on knowledge for teaching probability has attracted considerable attention from mathematics educators both domestically and internationally. However, studies discussing mathematics knowledge for teaching conditional probability remain scarce. This study investigated the progression of high school mathematics teachers' knowledge for teaching conditional probability while participating in a professional development course. The research instrument consisted of situations related to conditional probability, designed to measure the types of knowledge within the Mathematics Knowledge for Teaching (MKT) framework by Ball et al. (2008). Research data was analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively to clarify the progression of high school teachers' knowledge for teaching conditional probability. Preliminary findings indicated a change in teachers' mathematical knowledge for teaching conditional probability across four domains: Common Content Knowledge, Specialized Content Knowledge, Knowledge of Content and Students, and Knowledge of Content and Teaching. These findings substantiated the critical role of professional development programs in enhancing mathematics teachers' knowledge for teaching conditional probability.

ARTISTIC TONE AS A MODE OF CONSTRUCTING THE EXISTENTIAL SENSE OF BEAUTY – THE CASE OF NAGAI KAFŪ’S SHORT STORIES

Tone constitutes one of the important dimensions of narrative art, as it not only governs the ways in which an author constructs character images but also contributes significantly to the expression of each writer’s distinctive creative style. By examining and analyzing two characteristic artistic tones in Nagai Kafū’s short stories, namely the melancholic tone and the confessional tone, this article aims to clarify how the articulation of artistic tone contributes to the construction of an existential sense of beauty in the author’s short fiction. From the perspectives of narrative studies, Japanese existential aesthetics, and the structural–systemic approach, the study elucidates the role of these artistic tones in expressing existential aesthetics, while also opening up a new approach to understanding the interaction between traditional aesthetics and existential thought in modern and early modern Japanese literature.

CONCEPTUAL METAPHOR “EMOTION IS WEATHER” IN VIETNAMESE LANGUAGE

This paper focuses on the study of the conceptual metaphor “EMOTION IS WEATHER” in Vietnamese, based on data from dictionaries, literary works, journalistic discourse, and everyday language. Drawing on Lakoff and Johnson’s (1980) theory of conceptual metaphor, the paper examines several emotion-related conceptual metaphors with weather as the source domain. The study shows that the conceptual metaphor EMOTION IS WEATHER is formed through four types of mappings: (1) weather patterns corresponding to emotional states, (2) weather characteristics corresponding to emotional qualities, (3) the intensity of weather corresponding to the intensity of emotions, and (4) changes in weather corresponding to changes in emotions. The paper also demonstrates that this metaphor is grounded in bodily experience and sensory interaction with the natural environment, reflecting a mode of thinking and feeling closely linked to agricultural life, tropical climate, and the cultural characteristics of Vietnam.

“BRIDGING CONTEXTS” IN SEMANTIC CHANGE: AN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF SUCH CONTEXTS IN THE CASE OF THE VIETNAMESE VERB NGHE (‘TO HEAR’)

Semantic change is a universal phenomenon across languages, resulting in changes to the number of meanings a word may conventionally possess. In addition to the original meaning, derived senses emerge. However, before these derived senses become stabilized, what Evans and Wilkins (2000) term “bridging contexts” may occur–intermediate, transitional contexts that facilitate the shift from speaker-specific (utterance-level) meaning to conventionalized (system-level) meaning. This paper outlines the concept of bridging contexts and explores its applicability to the Vietnamese verb nghe (“to hear”).

A LINGUISTIC ANALYSIS OF BEAUTY IN ADVERTISING DISCOURSE AND TIKTOK BASED ON FAIRCLOUGH'S THREE-DIMENSIONAL MODEL

In the context of modern Vietnamese society, the explosion of digital media and the wave of globalization have strongly impacted aesthetic perceptions, where advertising discourse and the TikTok social network play a major role in shaping beauty standards. These platforms, not only used for commercial purposes, have created a broad and unlimited interactive environment, spreading standards of appearance. Applying Fairclough's three-dimensional critical discourse analysis model, this study examines the relationship between text, discourse practice, and social practice in several trending advertisements and videos from YouTube and TikTok. Through this, we investigate how language has transformed commercially driven impositions of physical appearance into "common sense" in life. The research results affirm the role of discourse in reproducing aesthetic ideologies, while also warning about the increasing pressure for physical appearance homogenization among Vietnamese youth under the influence of digital culture.

CULTURAL METAPHORS IN VIETNAMESE FOLKTALES

The study approaches Vietnamese folktales from the theoretical frameworks of Cognitive Linguistics and Cultural Linguistics, focusing on examining the role of cultural metaphor systems in organizing and conveying the community's abstract concepts. Based on a discourse analysis of several representative folktales (such as Tấm Cám, Thạch Sanh, Sự tích hồ Ba Bể, Chuyện quả bầu, etc.), the study identifies three dominant types of metaphors: ontological metaphors, orientational metaphors, and structural metaphors. The findings indicate that these types of metaphors (ontological metaphors, orientational metaphors, and structural metaphors) not only concretise abstract categories but also organize the space as a mechanism of cultural evaluation, as well as simultaneously embodying and "verifying" moral values through characters' actions and narrative outcomes according to cause-and-effect relationships. From a cultural linguistics perspective, the stable repetition of these metaphors demonstrates that they are not only figures of speech, but also collective cognitive mechanisms, which assist communities in internalising moral norms, spiritual beliefs, and the social order through storytelling experiences.

SOME DISCUSSIONS ON THE CONCEPT OF ADMINISTRATIVE JURISDICTION IN VIETNAM

Administrative adjudication is an activity of significant importance, especially in the context of building a rule-of-law state and ongoing judicial reform. In order to better understand the concept of administrative adjudication, this article focuses on analyzing and clarifying the notion of administrative adjudication in both its broad and narrow senses. It also examines the fundamental characteristics of administrative adjudication in Vietnam, thereby highlighting its important role in controlling the activities of state administrative management bodies. In addition, the author analyzes several current legal–theoretical issues related to administrative adjudication, such as the scope of jurisdiction, the limits of control, and the enforceability of court judgments. The article also proposes orientations for improvement in order to contribute to ensuring transparency and efficiency in the operation of state administrative management agencies, while safeguarding the lawful rights and interests of individuals and organizations.

A SURVEY OF STUDENTS’ ERRORS IN TRANSLATING CHINESE IDIOMS INTO VIETNAMESE

This study investigates the translation of Chinese idioms into Vietnamese by 150 students majoring in Translation and Interpreting at the Faculty of Chinese Language, University of Foreign Languages, Hue University (including 80 third-year students and 70 fourth-year students). Based on the collected data, the study analyzes common translation errors and proposes several considerations for the translation process, thereby contributing to improving students’ translation competence.

THE U.S. – RUSSIA ECONOMIC WAR IN COLD WAR 2.0: SANCTIONS, FRAGMENTATION, AND GLOBAL REGIONALIZATION

This article examines the economic confrontation between the United States and Russia within the broader context of great-power competition and the emerging framework often described as “Cold War 2.0.” The study focuses on the unprecedented economic sanctions imposed by the United States and its Western allies on Russia following the Russia – Ukraine conflict in 2022, including financial sanctions, trade restrictions, technology controls, and exclusion from major international payment systems. The article assesses the impact of these sanctions on the Russian economy and analyzes their broader implications for the global economic system. At the same time, it explores Russia’s strategic responses, such as promoting de-dollarization, expanding the use of national currencies in international transactions, strengthening economic cooperation within the BRICS framework, and deepening ties with countries in the Global South. The study argues that the U.S. – Russia economic confrontation represents not only a geopolitical instrument of pressure but also a manifestation of structural shifts in the global economic order. These developments signal a transition from a liberal, highly integrated globalization model toward a more fragmented system shaped by geopolitical blocs and strategic alliances. In this context, the effectiveness of economic sanctions and the leadership role of the Western-led economic order are increasingly being questioned.

COMMON ERRORS IN TRANSLATING VIETNAMESE IDIOMS WITH SINO-VIETNAMESE ELEMENTS INTO CHINESE AMONG STUDENTS OF THE FACULTY OF CHINESE, UNIVERSITY OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES AND INTERNATIONAL STUDIES, HUE UNIVERSITY

Translation serves as an essential bridge in linguistic and cultural exchange. Translating idioms requires learners not only to master linguistic structures but also to understand the cultural values embedded within idiomatic expressions. Practical experience in teaching Vietnamese-Chinese translation shows that students often encounter considerable difficulties when translating Vietnamese idioms containing Sino-Vietnamese elements into Chinese. This study surveys 200 fourth-year students, 100 majoring in Translation and 100 majoring in Interpreting at the Faculty of Chinese, University of Foreign Languages, Hue University, with the aim of identifying common types of errors, analyzing their causes, and proposing remedial solutions. The findings reveal that the overall accuracy rate remains relatively low, particularly for idioms that do not have exact equivalents or lack corresponding expressions in Chinese. Based on these results, the study offers several recommendations to enhance teaching effectiveness and improve students’ translation competence.

APPLYING ACTIVE TEACHING IN TEACHING THE COURSE “RECEPTION OPERATIONS” FOR FRENCH-MAJORED STUDENTS SPECIALIZING INTOURISM AT FACULTY OF FRENCH – RUSSIAN, UNIVERSITY OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES AND INTERNATIONAL STUDIES, HUE UNIVERSITY

This study presents the results of a survey on students’ and lecturers’ feedback regarding the application of active teaching methods, a learner-centered pedagogical approach, in the course reception operations. These methods provide students with opportunities to develop professional knowledge, French for specific purposes competence, and front office skills through practice-based activities embedded in authentic professional contexts.

The study was conducted with Tourism-major students from cohorts K17 and K18. The findings indicate that the implementation of active teaching methods enhances students’ learner autonomy, learning motivation, and learning effectiveness, while also producing significant improvements in their French professional language competence and front office operational skills.

SOME OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS OF FEMALE SCIENTISTS AT HUE UNIVERSITY DURING THE 2012–2025 PERIOD AS A FOUNDATION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN THE NEW CONTEXT

This article analyzes the most outstanding achievements of female scientists at Hue University during the 2012–2025 period in the context of higher education reform, the development of science and technology, innovation, and international integration. Based on an interdisciplinary approach and the synthesis of materials from scientific reports, research works, and secondary documents of Hue University, the article focuses on examining these outstanding achievements in terms of professional development; achievements in research, technology transfer, and innovation, which serves identifying possible obstacles and proposing suggestions to further promote the potential of female scientists for the development of higher education in the emerging context.
