Abstract

This paper presents the results of a study to determine some basic parameters of biomass pellet produced from water hyacinth such as: bulk density, mechanical strength, total moisture, ash content, volatile matter content, fixed carbon content, total calorific value. Beside, the paper also presents the influence of two parameters: compression pressure and raw material size on the bulk density of water hyacinth pellet. The results show that most of the properties of water hyacinth pellets met TCVN 13534:2022 standard for biomass pellets. In addition, the results also show that compression pressure of about 150 MPa and raw material size less than 2mm are suitable for the compression process to manufacture water hyacinth pellets. This result shows that the possibility of using water hyacinth as raw material to produce biomass pellets is reasonable.
