IMPACT OF TEXTURING BY INSTANT CONTROLLED PRESSURE DROP (DIC) ON SOLVENT EXTRACTION OF JATROPHA CURCAS OIL
Abstract
The impact of Détente Instantanée Contrôlée - DIC (French for Instant controlledpressure drop) treatment on the oil hexane extraction process from Jatropha Curcas seed ofVietnam was investigated. A response surface methodology based on central compositerotatable design was used to analyze the influence of the different DIC operative parametersand optimize the treatment in terms of saturated steam pressure (P = 0.7 MPa) and thermaltreatment time (t = 70 s). Whatever DIC treatment conditions the yield of oil obtained, after2 hours of extraction, was higher than that of the untreated DIC sample (control sample);and the extraction rate (extraction kinetic) of treated DIC samples was faster than that of thecontrol sample. The effective diffusivity of the treated DIC samples can reach a value5.13*10-12 to 5.90*10-12 m2.s-1 while it is about 2.42*10-12 m2.s-1 for the control sample. Thestarting accessibility can reach 92.58% as against 75.91% for the control sample. Thescanning electron microscopy (SEM) micrographs provided the positive evidencemodifications of seed structure due to the DIC treatment.Keywords: extraction, jatropha, instant controlled pressure drop, DIC, vegetable oil.References
