Trí tuệ cảm xúc giúp nâng cao sức khỏe tâm thần, giảm thiểu nguy cơ rủi ro do rối loạn tâm thần mang lại, đặc biệt là ở thanh niên trong xã hội hiện đại. Nghiên cứu cơ bản về trí tuệ cảm xúc ở sinh viên và mối tương quan của nó với sức khỏe tâm thần, vì thế, là một nghiên cứu cần thiết ở Việt Nam, cung cấp bằng chứng khoa học đầy đủ hơn về bức tranh của trí tuệ cảm xúc và sức khỏe tâm thần; đồng thời là cơ sở lý luận và thực tiễn cho những nghiên cứu thực nghiệm nhằm nâng cao trí tuệ cảm xúc trong tương lai. Nghiên cứu tiến hành trên 484 sinh viên Đại học Huế cho thấy, tỉ lệ sinh viên có các dấu hiệu trầm cảm, lo âu, căng thẳng ở mức độ cao. Trí tuệ cảm xúc có khả năng dự đoán lớn đối với trầm cảm, lo âu và căng thẳng ở sinh viên. Trí tuệ cảm xúc cũng tương quan thuận và dự đoán sự hài lòng với cuộc sống trong mẫu nghiên cứu này. Một số đề xuất, hạn chế của nghiên cứu cũng như khuyến nghị cho hướng nghiên cứu trong tương lai cũng được thảo luận trong bài báo này.
