Tóm tắt

In the implementation of the National Foreign Language Project for the period 2008 – 2020, now extended to 2025 in Vietnam, level 3/6 - VNFLPF  (B1- CEFR) has been set as the learning outcomes for non-English major students. The implementation of this policy has brought about reforms in the general English curriculum, teaching materials, and assessment practices, which aimed at achieving the required learning outcomes. This paper reports the findings from an investigation into EFL teachers’ formative assessment practices of assessing non-English major students in a city in Central Vietnam using interviews, classroom observations and assessment samples. The study reveals some formative assessment tools commonly used by EFL teachers and factors affecting EFL teachers’ formative assessment practice. From the findings, practical suggestions on formative assessment practices are made with the hope of providing a valuable basis for both teaching and learning improvement.
